Natural Resources Defense Council: Michigan could save with regulations

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Michigan residents will save over one-billion dollars on their electric bills by 2020 if new limits on carbon pollution from power plants are adopted.

That's according to an analysis by the liberal Natural Resources Defense Council, but the U.S. Chamber of Commerce disagrees with that claim and argues that energy prices will rise and thousands of jobs will be lost with new regulations. Those rules will cut carbon pollution by up to 31-percent by 2020 and by as much as 38-percent in 2025 compared to 2012 levels.

The new standards will be unveiled by President Obama on Monday as the centerpiece of his plan to combat climate change.
