MONTGOMERY, MI (WTVB) – Firefighters from six departments last night battled a barn fire in Branch County’s California Township that appeared to be of suspicious origin. That’s the word from Montgomery fire chief Brad Freeburn, who said the State Fire Marshall’s office will be investigating how the blaze got started at the Miller Farms on Southern Road west of Philip Road in the southeast corner of the county.
A passerby called 9-1-1 to report the fire around 10:15 pm and the large hip-roof barn was engulfed in flames when firemen reached the scene. The structure was used mainly for storage with a tractor and a hay bailer lost in the last night’s fire. No injuries were reported.
Assisting Montgomery were the Quincy, Camden, Angola, Reading, Fremont, and Woodbridge Township Fire Departments.
