COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school girl soccer Monday, Coldwater was a 1-0 winner at home over Three Rivers. The non-conference victory improved the Cardinal’s season record to 4-1-and-2. After a scoreless first half, Madison Marsh got the lone goal of the game with 22:46 left, assisted by Megan Hoath. Shelby Bowers made 8 saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Three Rivers 14-11. in their 4th shutout in 7 games. The Cardinals will next host Marshall tomorrow in their Interstate 8 Conference opener. The defeat for Three Rivers dropped their record to 3-2-and-1.
In last night’s JV match, Coldwater also beat Three Rivers 1-0. Erika Sosa Aguilar had the lone goal for Coldwater.
Quincy lost an Independent Soccer League match at Springport 3-2. It was a back and forth game until the 11:52 mark when Springport took advantage of a breakaway off a loose ball to make it a 1-0 for the only score of the first half. The Orioles tied the match early in the second half as Cailyn Hines scored off a cross from Liz Counterman at the 36:53 mark. Springport then scored off a corner kick at 21:38 to go up 2-1. Quincy answered at the 14:46 mark as Cailyn Cook scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 2. The Spartan’s game winner came with just over 7 minutes to play to make the final score 3-2. Quincy out shot Springport 12 – 9 on the night. Quincy is now 1-1 in the I-S-L’s West Division and 2-3-1 overall. The Orioles next game is at home Saturday against Jonesville.
Several events yesterday were called off because of the rain including Coldwater girls tennis at Sturgis.
On today’s high school sports schedule, in softball, Coldwater plays at home against Pennfield and we’ll have the action on the radio joining the doubleheader in progress with our broadcast beginning around 5:30 p.m. following the Evening Journal. Today’s Coldwater baseball at home against Pennfield has been postponed and rescheduled for May 15th. Also in softball and baseball today, Quincy hosts Jonesville and Union City hosts Athens while in softball only, it’s Bronson at Olivet. In track, Coldwater has a meet at home against Harper Creek while Bronson is at Comstock. And in girls tennis, it’s Coldwater at Parma Western and Bronson at Niles Brandywine.
