MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Is there a highway sniper taking pot shots at traffic along I-69 in Branch County and I-94 in Calhoun County? Authorities are investigating. Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton says they have several reports of objects, or projectiles hitting vehicles between 11-Mile and I-69 on I-94 and on I-69 between Jonesville Road and M-60 in Branch County.
If you regularly drive those routes, you may want to inspect your car for damage. They have one confirmed bullet hit and lab tests are being conducted on four others in Calhoun County. Saxton says a total of six incidents are being checked out.
Calhoun County’s Major Crimes Task Force has been activated and investigators here have contacted the detectives in the Rowlie Castille highway sniper case between Lansing and Detroit. In that case a man with serious mental problems took shots at passing traffic, hitting about two dozen cars before he was captured, only wounding one driver. Citizens living and driving near the interstates should watch for cars parked in remote locations where they don’t belong, and report them.
