COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Bond was continued yesterday in Branch County District Court at a $1 million for each of the two suspects from Florida accused of installing skimming devices on gasoline pumps last month at two stations in Coldwater. 37-year old William Vergara of Miami and 48-year old Mario Lorenta of Davie, Florida were arraigned Wednesday on two counts apiece and charged for allegedly attempting to steal credit card information with the electronic devices.
The pair had waived extradition and were returned to Michigan Tuesday by Coldwater Police, who picked them up in Huntington County, Indiana where they were arrested the day after the skimmers were discovered on November 6 at two Shell stations in Coldwater. Federal investigators are checking to see if the two suspects may have also put a skimmer on a pump found two weeks later at a Citgo station on U.S. 12 on Coldwater’s east side.
Vergara and Lorenta are due back in court for a probable cause hearing December 10, 2015.
