BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Monday night in boys high school basketball, Coldwater pulled away in the second half to beat Bronson 55-33 in a matchup of county rivals at Bronson. The victory keeps the Cardinals undefeated at 4-0 while the Vikings remain winless at 0-4.
Coldwater was up 25-17 at halftime but then took control by outscoring Bronson 17-4 in the third quarter. Brendan Spangler finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds for the Cardinals and was our McDonald’s Player of the Game for Coldwater. Freshman center Gage McGuire had a game-high 12 points in the win. Daniel McMichael had a team-high 9 points for the Vikings.
Jonah Klingler led the way on the boards with 6 rebounds and he also finished with 6 points to earn our McDonald’s Player of the Game honors for Bronson.
The Cardinals are off now until next month with no holiday tournament action with their next game at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix on January 5. The Vikings also have an extended break with a 2-and-a-half week layoff which ends with a January 8 game at home against Mendon.
In last night’s junior varsity game, Coldwater downed Bronson 61-48. Zach Rigot had 14 points for the Cardinals with 11 for Lucas Santure. The Vikings were led by Caleb Stayner with 16 points and Bryce Kosmerick had 11 points. There was no freshman game.
Also last night in boys hoops, Tekonsha lost to Calhoun Christian 57-54 in round one of the Harper Creek Christmas tournament.
Today in high school sports, there’s only one varsity event on the Branch County schedule with Coldwater wrestling as the Cardinals compete at the Pinckney Invitational.
