BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there was only one event on the schedule last night and in wrestling, Bronson picked up a pair of wins in a quad at Marshall with the Vikings beating Comstock 59-24 and Marshall 56-18. Going 2-and-0 on the night were Eion Depaz, Jordan Withington, Wes Disbro, David Erwin, Cole Houtz, Jukoada Sexton, Chase Gibson, Nathan Caudill, and Joey Losinski. Bronson is now 22-2 on the season and will compete Saturday in the BCS Conference Invitational hosted by Niles-Brandywine.
In gymnastics Tuesday night, Coldwater dropped a conference match at Tecumseh 132.45 to 116.425. Despite the setback, the Lady Cardinals still scored a handful of individual qualifiers during the competition. In the vault, Sarah Hughes, Jenny Daoud and Amanda Daoud each posted individual qualifiers, boosting the team to their highest event total of the night. All three had already earned their right to perform in the post-season on the event. On the uneven bars, Jenny Daoud led the team with a 7.15. On the floor exercise, the Daoud sisters each posted a 7.625. The last event of the night was the balance beam and Brooke Neitzert led the way with a 7.775, giving her the final qualifier she needed to earn a spot on the beam at the Regionals.
Coming up on Saturday, Coldwater is hosting 5 schools for its 5th annual “Stick It For a Cure” Lady Cardinal Invitational to encourage cancer awareness. The competition begins at 9:45 a.m. and there will be a silent auction fundraiser that runs from 11am to 3 pm with all donations going to the CHC Oncology Center benefitting the patients of Branch County.
Coming up tonight in high school sports, in varsity Boys basketball, it’s Bronson at White Pigeon while in Girl’s hoops, Union City is at Reading and Tekonsha hosts Bellevue. Tonight’s reserve Boys and Girls basketball schedule includes Coldwater vs. Parma Western with the Girls Freshman and Junior Varsity playing in Coldwater with the freshman tipping off the action at 5:30. This afternoon, in bowling, Coldwater has a home match at Midway Lanes against Jackson Northwest.

In middle school sports yesterday, in Girls basketball, Coldwater swept 3 games from Jackson Lumen Christi and lost one game to Jackson Parkside. The 8th grade contests were in Jackson and in the “A” game, Coldwater beat Lumen Christi 44-22 with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Tyler Scheid while Malorie Rzepka added 12 points and 8 assists. The “B” team lost to Parkside with 12 points for Anna Tappenden. In Coldwater, the 7th grade “A” team defeated Lumen Christi 37-22 with 13 points for Carlee Crabtree along with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Olivia Foley. Coldwater won the “B” game 12-9 with 6 points for Mackenzie Cole. Also yesterday, Union City’s 8th grade team lost 25-20 to Jonesville with 4 points apiece for Danielle Cross, Marionna Bigelow and Autumn Carpenter.
