BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, last night in varsity boys and girls basketball, Bronson went down to defeat with the boys losing at home 56-52 to Battle Creek St. Philip while the Lady Vikings fell on the road in overtime to Mendon 41-38. The Boys game saw St. Philip pull out the win by beating Bronson in the fourth quarter 24-19. The visiting Tigers led 26-25 at the half with the Vikings taking a 33-32 lead into the final period. Daniel McMichael had a team-high 13 points for Bronson while Noah Roberts and Jordan Alger added 10 points apiece along with 9 rebounds for Roberts. The non-conference loss dropped the Viking’s record to 4-8. Tomorrow night, Bronson hosts Union City.
In the girl’s action, the game was tied 34-all at the end of regulation play and the host Hornets then outscored Bronson 7-to-4 to win it in overtime. Kinslea Blouin and Skyler Sobeski had ten points apiece in the loss. Bronson’s first conference setback of the season drops their record in the BCS to 6-1 with their overall mark at 12-3.
There was freshman Boys basketball last night with Coldwater winning 42-23 at Fremont, Indiana. Joe Severn had 12 points and 9 rebounds in the victory for the Cardinals .
Tonight in high school sports, there’s a Branch County matchup in Girls basketball with Quincy at Union City. And this afternoon in Bowling, it’s Coldwater at Charlotte.

In middle school sports, yesterday in Girls basketball, Coldwater split their 4 games against Parma Western with wins for the Coldwater 8th grade “A” and 7th grade “B” teams. In the 8th grade action in Coldwater, the Lady Cardinals won the “A” game 57-29 with 24 points for Malorie Rzepka and 11 for Samantha Rodesiler. Parma took the “B” game 29-26 with 9 points apiece for Valentina Yaldo and Anna Tappenden. The 7th grade “A” team fell at Parma 46-44 despite 31 points and 10 rebounds from Carlee Crabtree. Olivia Foley added 10 points for Coldwater. In the “B” game, the Lady Cardinals defeated Parma 33-17 with 20 points for Emma Moore.
Bronson played at Mendon last night with a win for the 8th grade team while the 7th grade squad fell to the host Hornets. The 8th grade beat Mendon 40-15 with 16 points for Ashton Wronikowski and 12 for Maddy Thompson. Bronson lost the 7th grade game 23-20 with 8 points for Keona Salesman. And Union City’s 8th grade team was a winner at Reading 30-18 with 8 points for Marionna Bigelow.
