QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports last night, in a cross-county Boys varsity basketball matchup, Quincy was a winner at home on Senior Night over Bronson 65-35. Jake Rider had a game high 16 points in the win while Jake Jodway added 13 points with 11 points for Nathan Karney. For Bronson, Sean Kenny had 12 points while Eric Toledo had a game-high 10 rebounds along with 6 points.
The non-conference loss dropped the Vikings to 5-11 while the Orioles improved to 16-1. For the second straight week, Quincy remains honorable mention in the Associated Press Class-C poll.
In reserve boys and girls basketball makeup action last night, it was Coldwater vs Jackson Northwest with Northwest sweeping the four games. In the boys games at Northwest, the JV Cardinals lost 43-33 with 6 points apiece for Zack Murphy and Cameron Barnes. Coldwater fell in the freshman contest 57-40 with 15 points for Dominic Kelly.
In the girls Junior Varsity game at Coldwater, the Lady Cardinals lost 50-48 in overtime with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Jamie Wellet while Allison Butler had 10 points. Northwest won the freshman game 36-21.
In gymnastics last night, Coldwater was a winner at home over Angola 123.05 to 116.425. In the opening competition on the vault, the Lady Cardinals swept the visiting Hornets, claiming the top six spots. Junior Darien Dyer led the way with a personal best and first place finish of 8.3. Next on the uneven bars, Senior Jenny Daoud continued to dominate the event leading Coldwater with her mark of 7.95. On the balance beam, the Lady Cardinals picked up the top four places, led by junior Amanda Daoud’s stuck beam routine at 8.2. Floor exercise was the final event of the night and Coldwater earned six individual qualifiers paced by junior Darien Dyer, who placed second while performing a personal best routine at 8.0. In the all-around competition, Brooke Neitzert finished first with a personal best total of 31.025. Jenny Daoud claimed second with sister Amanda Daoud third, helping the Lady Cardinals sweep the top three. Thursday night, Coldwater will host Mason on Parents and Senior night.
In bowling from over the weekend, the Coldwater girls junior varsity won the Division Two JV state tournament title. In the singles event, Samantha Youse took third place while Sabrina VanAuker was 24th. The Coldwater JV boys team finished in second place at state. Nick Galliers made it to the quarterfinals at singles with Dominick Clark placing 18th and Andrew Sheets 30th.

The Cardinal’s boys JV and Freshmen teams also play at Lumen Christi while in the girls contests in Coldwater, the Varsity and JV teams take on the visiting Titans while in the freshman game, the Lady Cardinals host Marshall. Also tonight, in girls only play, it’s Quincy at home against Concord, Bronson is at Colon, and Union City hosts Homer.

In middle school sports yesterday, in Girls basketball, it was a split for Coldwater against Marshall with wins for Coldwater in the 8th grade “A” game and the 7th grade “B” game. Coldwater hosted the 8th grade action and in the “A” contest, they beat the Redhawks 62-50 with 19 points and 13 rebounds for Samantha Rodesiler while Tyler Scheid added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Malorie Rzepka had 11 points. Marshall won the “B” game in overtime 34-31 with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Anna Tappenden. The 7th grade “A” team lost at Marshall 36-33 with 15 points for Olivia Foley along with 9 points and 11 rebounds for Carlee Crabtree. Coldwater won the “B” game 16-14 with 4 points each for Linzy Monks and McKenzy Cole.
