COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, there was wrestling over the weekend with top three showings on Saturday for both Coldwater and Bronson. It was a second place finish for Coldwater out of 16 teams at the Parma Western Invitational. Leading the way for the Cardinals by placing second were Josh Powers and Zach Chehowski. Finishing third were Daniel Pino and Sam DeMeester. Also, Shuaib Aljabaly placed fourth while placing sixth were Derek Carr, Jesse Miller, and Austin Rutz. Coldwater returns to action at home against Harper Creek for Senior Night on Wednesday.
Also in wrestling, Bronson had a third place finish out of 9 teams at the Hastings Invitational. Kahle Scheenks placed first at 135 and was selected outstanding wrestler of the tournament. Also for Bronson, Jacob Butters and Wesley Disbro placed second, while finishing third were Landon Gould, David Erwin, Mykal Kline, Chase Gibson, Nathan Caudell, and Joey Losinski.
Also on Saturday, in gymnastics, Coldwater was at the Rockford Invitational and in competing against some of the top schools in Michigan, the Lady Cardinals finished 15th out of 17 teams with a score of 114.350. The vault was Coldwater’s highest scoring event and four gymnasts earned their individual qualifying scores including Jenny Daoud, Shelby Kahler, Madison Hedstrom, and Darien Dyer. Coldwater’s next meet is Wednesday at Saline.
Tonight in high school sports, in Boys basketball, Quincy has a non-conference game at home against Grass Lake.
