BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports last night, in varsity boys basketball, Bronson’s second half comeback fell short and the Vikings lost at home to White Pigeon 60-55. The Chiefs led at the break 33-15 before Bronson rallied but it wasn’t enough as the defeat dropped their record to 1-5. Noah Roberts had 15 points with 11 for Jordan Alger. The Vikings next scheduled game is a week from tonight at home against Athens.
In girls basketball, Tekonsha was a winner at Colon 34-32 with 9 points for Jordynn Lloyd along with 8 points and 13 rebounds for Alexis Newbold. The victory improved the Indians record to 2-5.
Last night’s reserve hoops action included Coldwater vs. Harper Creek with a sweep for the Coldwater girls at home while the boys dropped a pair at Harper Creek. In the girls play, the Coldwater junior varsity beat the Beavers 52-21 with 23 points for Allison Butler. The freshmen downed Harper Creek 34-18 with 16 points for Avery Milnes.
The Coldwater boys JV team lost 40-35 with 11 points and 8 rebounds for Brady Beckhusen. And the Beavers won the freshmen game 34-18 with 6 points for Brent Smoker.
Last night in gymnastics, Coldwater lost their meet at home to Jackson Lumen Christi 138.825 to 117.65. The Lady Cardinals, dealing with a number of injuries, had just one qualifying score on the vault as Britney Peet picked up her second qualifier. Amanda Daoud had a solid meet, posting qualifying scores in 3 of the 4 events and earned the right to perform in the post season on the bars, balance beam, and the floor. Jenny Daoud continues to lead the team in scoring with her all-around mark last night of 30.625, posting qualifying scores in the bars and floor. And there were four individual qualifiers on the balance beam. Sticking her routine and leading the way was Madison Hedstrom with a season high score of 7.7 and her first time qualifier. The next meet for Coldwater is a week from tomorrow at the Adrian Invitational.
Thursday in bowling, Coldwater hosted Charlotte at Midway Lanes with the boys Varsity and JV squads picking up victories while Charlotte won the girls matches. Leading the varsity boys team was Buddy Bailey with a 211 and Shawn Johnson with a 206. Andrew Sheets paced the junior varsity with a 202. In the girls match, the Coldwater varsity was led by freshman Alysia VanWormer with a 189 while the top score for the JV squad was rolled by Sabrina VanAuker with a 180. Coldwater’s next match is Tuesday at Marshall. The bowling club also sends out a thanks to everyone in the community that supported their spaghetti dinner fundraiser last Friday night at the Coldwater Elks Lodge.

In middle school sports yesterday, in girls basketball, it was a split for Bronson at Homer with 36-23 loss for the eighth grade team and a 26-8 win for the seventh grade squad. Maddy Thompson had 14 points in the loss while Alanna Mayer had 13 points in the victory.
