EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The high school sports season in Michigan wraps up today with the MHSAA Baseball, Softball, and Girls Soccer Finals being played on the campus of Michigan State University. The Bronson Viking softball team will be there, playing for a Division 3 title following their 5-0 shutout win against Montague in yesterday’s Division 3 Semifinals. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Skyler Sobeski, continued her dominance on the pitching circle, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 12; she helped her own cause offensively with a triple and a 2-RBI single. Kelsey Robinson also hit a 2-run single, while Payton Robinson and Kaitlyn Czajkowski had the other Viking hits. Bronson will take a 37-7 record into today’s Division 3 championship game against top-ranked Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central, a contest which should prove to be a tremendous pitching battle: in the Kestrels’ 6-0 win against Pinconning in the other Division 3 Semifinal, Megan Beaubien threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 this afternoon from MSU’s Secchia Stadium; our pregame coverage begins at 5:15. The Kalamazoo Christian Comets will make their third straight Division 4 Softball Final appearance and 11th overall after beating Hillman 13-2 in 5 innings yesterday. The Comets face Unionville-Sebawaing this afternoon for the Division 4 title afer USA beat Holton 4-1.
Yesterday in the MHSAA Baseball Semifinals, BCS East champion Centreville defeated Rudyard 2-1 to advance to today’s Division 4 championship game against Muskegon Catholic Central, who beat Ubly 4-1. In Division 3, Jackson Lumen Christi, who finished 4th in the Interstate 8 this season, advanced to today’s Division 3 title game with a 7-3 win against Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker. The Titans will face BCS West champion Buchanan, a 6-4 winner over Gladstone.
Two of the MHSAA Girls Soccer championship games were played yesterday; our congratulations go out to the Gull Lake Blue Devils, who won their third consecutive Division 2 crown by beating Fenton 1-0 in a shootout.
