COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, the Coldwater Cardinals MHSAA state semifinal football playoff game will be Saturday afternoon at Jackson High School’s Withington Stadium with the kickoff set for 1 p.m. The winning team will face either East Grand Rapids or Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in the Division 3 Final Saturday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.
The Cardinals claimed their first ever Regional Title Friday night at St. Joseph with Coldwater beating the St. Joseph Bears 20-6. The 12-0 Cardinals are the last undefeated team in Division 3.
Another Branch County school is still in the hunt for an MHSAA title. In volleyball, Class-C top-ranked Bronson plays in the quarterfinals tomorrow night in Vicksburg at 7 p.m. against Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian. The winner advances to the final four at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek and a 2 pm semifinal match on Friday.
The rollout of the winter high school sports season in Michigan continues today with tryouts for boys basketball and wrestling along with boys and girls bowling.
A week from today will be the opening tryouts and practice for the first year of Coldwater boys swimming and diving. There’s conditioning this week at the Browne Aquatic Center along with an informational meeting on Wednesday at 3 pm at the CHS Cafetorium.
