BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, it’s the state volleyball tournament quarterfinals tonight and the top-ranked Bronson Lady Vikings take on Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian at 7 p.m. in an MHSAA Class C match at Vicksburg. We’ll have all the action on the radio and you can also listen on-line at wtvbam.com with our live coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Bronson is shooting for a repeat of their title run six years ago when they captured a state championship in 2009. NorthPointe Christian’s last trip to the Elite Eight was in 1999. Tonight’s winner advances to Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek and a 2 p.m. semi-final match Friday afternoon against either Calumet or Traverse City St. Francis. The Class C State Final is scheduled for Noon Saturday.
The MHSAA Football semifinals are set for Saturday afternoon including the Coldwater Cardinals taking on the Chelsea Bulldogs in a Division 3 game at Jackson High School’s Withington Stadium with a one o’clock kickoff. Advance tickets sales will take place tomorrow, Thursday and Friday in the CHS Athletic office and the public is asked to enter the high school through the Green Street entrance. In middle school boys basketball yesterday in Coldwater, the Cardinal’s 8th grade B team beat Jackson Northwest while the seventh grade teams split their games at Northwest. Coldwater won the 8th grade contest 45-43. Grey Skudlarick had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Jacob Carr added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cardinal’s 7th grade A team beat the Mounties 42-32 with 12 points for Deandre Douglas and 11 points for Spencer Rodesiler. Coldwater’s 7th grade B team lost to Northwest with Rylan Brockway the leading scorer for the Cardinals while Zak Saeed and Luke Larr were the top rebounders.
