FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – A Fremont, Indiana high school student is dead after suffering fatal injuries in an apparent tree cutting accident just south of the Michigan border. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says rescue crews were dispatched about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday to County Road 700 North near St. Paul’s Catholic Chapel. There were indications that a tree had fallen on the victim who was part of a tree crew working on site.
16-year old Colin Book was said to be unresponsive when rescue responders arrived and a coroner later ruled he died from blunt force trauma. The teen had been flown from the scene by Samaritan helicopter. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident.
Fremont Schools made additional counseling available for students and staff.
