Upon winning this achievement Consumers’ staff participated in a survey covering 6 categories in which we came out on top of our peers who competed. “Our employee wellness program encompasses a great variety of areas including: employee benefits, wellness coaching and incentive, and events through the year that is activity driven, like our walks, runs, and canoeing to name a few,” says Ron Martin, Centre Street Office Manager.
Living a wellness culture is something that Consumers helps employees do by providing programs that help staff live a healthier, happy life. Some of the programs that were mentioned:
-Onsite Wellness coaching- staff meets with medical personnel in which they preform a biometric screening to check their wellness and have a coaching session on how to maintain a health lifestyle.
-Annual Wellness points/miles program- employees keep track of healthy activities that they do in regards to exercise, activities, and healthy eating. These points help staff win quarterly prizes.
-Team Consumers- Employee reimbursement program for participating in healthy activities such as running/ biking events, team sports (e.g. softball, hockey, soccer, etc.), and classes (e.g. yoga, personal training, etc.).
“Wellness isn’t just about eating right and exercising to lose weight. Wellness is about being balanced and making good decisions for long-term wellbeing. Our wellness program, which we introduced in 2012, helps employees take a holistic approach to their total wellbeing,” says Shawn Premer Chief Human Resources Officer. “At Consumers, wellness isn’t just an initiative. It is part of our culture.”
