COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Wednesday night in high school volleyball, Coldwater opened Interstate Eight Conference play by losing at Marshall in four games, 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 15-25. Shelby Kahler and Drue Mullin had 17 digs apiece. Jasmine Wellet had a team-high 8 kills along with 15 digs. Hannah Parrish led the way in blocks with 5 and Jamie Wellet had a team-high 16 assists. Coldwater’s overall record is now 4-9-4.
There was a split in the reserve action at Marshall. The Redhawks beat Coldwater 2-1 in the JV match. Malorie Rzepka had 12 digs. Kaci White had 7 kills and 2 blocks. And Avery Milnes had 8 assists.
The Lady Cardinals defeated Marshall 2-1 in the freshman match. Hailey Steel had 7 kills. Jordan Clemens had 6 aces, 4 digs and 2 blocks. And Anna Tappenden had 8 assists.
Also in volleyball, Bronson won their conference match at home, beating New Buffalo 3-0. Jill Pyles had 10 kills and 2 blocks, Adyson Lasky had 5 digs, and Alexa Ratkowski had 23 assists. Bronson, which is ranked second in the state this week in Class-C, improved their BCS record to 2-0 with their overall mark at 18-4-1.
Yesterday in girls golf, Coldwater traveled to Marshall for the 3rd I-8 Jamboree of the season and in a close match, the Lady Cardinals came in 4th place with a team score of 204. Jackson Lumen Christi won the event shooting a 189. Charlotte and Parma Western tied for 2nd with each shooting 203 but Charlotte won with the best score from their sixth player. Coldwater was led by Madison Donbrock with a 47, Haley Linton fired a 49, Claire Sheppard and Molly Smith each had a 54, Gabriel Boston shot a 56 and Jayla Goodwin rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 58. Coldwater will be in action tomorrow hosting 17 teams in the Lady Cardinal Invitational at the Coldwater Golf Course.
Coldwater’s JV golf team went to the Cedar Creek Golf Course in Battle Creek yesterday for a scramble event hosted by Battle Creek Lakeview. Leading Coldwater with their fourth place finish was the team of Micki Slack and Jena Beckhusen with a score of 50.
In boys tennis, Coldwater was a winner at home, sweeping to an 8-0 conference victory over Jackson Lumen Christi. Winning their singles matches were Javier Perez-Marsa, Nate Waterbury, Kumaran Arivoli, and Porter Skidmore while in doubles, the winners were Nolan Duda and Austin Butler at first doubles, Kam Miller and Shane O’Grady at second doubles, Nick Galliers and Christian Pine at third doubles, and Mitchell Duda and Evan Henry at fourth doubles.
Wednesday in cross country, Quincy ran with six other schools at the Leslie Invitational and the Oriole’s Girls’s team took third place with the Boys finishing fourth. Gabby Porter led the way for the Girls with her sixth place finish while in the Boys race, Brandon Gary finished fifth.
Today in high school sports, in Boys soccer, in a varsity only match, it’s Coldwater at Pennfield starting at 6:00 p.m. The Coldwater JV team has a 5 p.m. match at Three Rivers. Also in boys soccer, it’s Quincy at Hillsdale Academy. In volleyball, Union City is at home against Bellevue. And there’s reserve football tonight including Coldwater’s junior varsity and freshmen teams playing at Parma Western. Also in JV action, it’s Quincy at Athens and Union City at Springport.
