COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater was recently notified by the Insurance Services Office that their public protection class has been lowered to a Class 3 rating.
Class 1 is best a community can receive while a Class 10 means a community is not meeting minimum requirements.
Based on 2015 information, only 29 out of over 2,100 rated communities in Michigan and only nine percent of rated communities nationwide received a Class 3 or lower fire rating.
This rating extends to properties within five miles of the responding fire station and one thousand feet of a municipal fire hydrant.
The Coldwater Fire Department was recognized for its efforts in fire safety education, preventative inspection practices, plan review, code enforcement and pre-incident planning.
