STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – A Wisconsin man was killed Thursday morning in a two vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police, a 1999 Ford van driven by 37 year old Jason W. Mateer of Racine, Wisconsin was traveling westbound at the 133 mile marker when, for an unknown reason, it spun and left the road. The van went into the median and then vaulted into the cab of an eastbound 1998 Volvo car hauler driven by 65 year old Joseph P. Holman of Detroit.
Although both men were seat belted, Mateer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office and Holman was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center by the Samaritan Air Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation.
