BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – In high school wrestling Wednesday, Bronson won twice in a quad meet at Marshall with the victories giving the Vikings an undefeated regular season record of 24-0. Bronson defeated Fowler 73-6 and then beat Olivet 69-12.
Going 2-0 on the night were Eion Depaz, Connor Vargo, Jordan Withington, Ruger Ranney, Issac Robertson, Gavin Alger, Cole Houtz, David Erwin, Alex Arias, Billy Balowski, and Joey Losinski. The meet allowed Erwin to run his career victory total to 100 wins. The Vikings, who are ranked 7th in the state in Division 4, will be at Niles Brandywine Saturday for the BCS Championship meet.
In gymnastics last night, Coldwater lost at home to Tecumseh on Senior Night but still managed to post a regional qualifying score against their ranked opponent. Coldwater earned 122.3 points and has collected a Regional qualifier total in every outing except for their first meet of the season.
Last night’s first event was the vault and Amanda Daoud led the Cardinals with an 8.4. Abby Swick earned her fourth and final qualifying score and will compete in the post season thanks to her mark of 8.1. Next on the uneven bars, Daoud again paced her team with a solid 7.525.
On the balance beam, Coldwater had six competitors pick up qualifying scores with four of them sticking their routines. Freshman Claire Sheppard will compete at the regionals on the event with her fourth qualifier and Swick earned her third individual score while Daoud led the Cardinals at 7.75.
The evening finished up with the floor exercise and Daoud wrapped up a consistent performance with an 8.35 score. Coldwater had three gymnasts again post totals over 30 points in the all-around, including Daoud, Swick and Erica Rogers. The Cardinals are now 2-3 in the conference and 3-3 overall. They travel to Plymouth Canton on Saturday for an Invitational that will be a preview of the postseason competition. Coldwater will host their own Invitational the following Saturday when the gymnasts will Stick It For A Cure.
In varsity bowling yesterday afternoon, Coldwater traveled to Jackson to face Parma Western and the visiting Cardinals boys and girls teams both defeated the Panthers 30-0. The boys improved to 9-0 in the conference with their high score Wednesday rolled by Collin Outwater with a 225. Leading the girls, who have a 7-2 league record, was Samantha Youse with a 225.
Tonight in high school sports, in girls basketball, Quincy hosts Jonesville, Union City is at Reading, and Tekonsha hosts Waldron.
In middle school girls basketball, Coldwater split their 4 games with Jackson Lumen Christi with wins for the Cardinals A teams while the B team games were won by Lumen Christi. In the 8th grade action in Coldwater, the A team beat the Titans 49-15 with 16 points for Olivia Foley and 10 rebounds for Carlee Crabtree. The B team lost 17-8.
The 7th grade Coldwater A team won at Jackson 28-23 with 9 points for Mia Rzepka and 9 rebounds for Alyssa Bach. Lumen Christi won the B game 20-17 with 7 points for Joselyn Salto.
Union City’s 8th grade team lost 35-12 at Jonesville.
