QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports last night, in a county matchup in Girls basketball, Bronson was a winner at Quincy with the Vikings beating the Orioles 47-36. Bronson built a 28-9 halftime lead and it was too much of a deficit for Quincy to overcome. Kirin Cekander had a game high 13 points for the Vikings while the Bronson defense caused problems for the Orioles as Quincy committed 35 turnovers.
Katie Spalding had a double-double in the loss with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Zoe Aseltine had a team-high 11 points for the Orioles while Payton Hines added 10 points and 6 steals. The non-conference defeat dropped Quincy’s record to 0-9 while Bronson snapped a 3-game skid to improve to 5-3.
In another non-league game last night, Union City lost at home to Centreville 55-19. Kena Bartlett had 12 rebounds and 5 points for the Chargers, who slip to 2-8.
Tonight in high school sports, in Varsity boys and girls basketball in Interstate Eight Conference action, it’s Coldwater vs. Jackson Lumen Christi with the boys game at Jackson while the girls play in Coldwater. We’ll have the Boys contest on the radio with our live coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the tip-off set for 7 p.m.following the Junior Varsity game. The JV game is set for 5:30 p.m.after the freshmen get started at 4 p.m. It’s the same timeline for the girls at Coldwater although the freshman game is between the Lady Cardinals and Chelsea.
Also tonight, in boys only play, it’s Quincy at Jonesville while Union City hosts Reading and Tekonsha is at home against Pittsford. In boys swimming and diving, Coldwater is at Sturgis for the A-&-K Relays. And in bowling this afternoon, Coldwater has a home match against Jackson Lumen Christi at Midway Lanes.
The Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee has announced that four alumni have been chosen for induction this month into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Selected for the honors are Keely (Gruner) Beemer, Cassie Krenzalek, Cam Holicki, and Corey Post. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, January 29, in-between games of the scheduled basketball doubleheader between Coldwater and Marshall.
In middle school girls basketball, the Bronson 7th grade team was a winner last night at Quincy 31-18 with 10 points for Meagan Lasky. The Coldwater Legg Middle School girls teams tip off their season today against Harper Creek with the 7th grade games in Coldwater and the 8th grade contests at Harper Creek.
