COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners decided during their work session on Thursday to table a Sheriff’s Department request for a dispatch intercom system between the courthouse holding cell and the jail.
County Administrator Bud Norman said it would cost about $11,000.
Jail Administrator Fred Blankenship says they have had some issues in the holding cell such as seizures and a possible overdose when an officer was not available.
He said it would allow those in the holding cell to communicate with someone outside in case they needed assistance.
Commission Chair Don Vrablic told Blankenship he had concerns about inmates in the holding cell having access to an intercom button.
Vrablic was also concerned about how the county would pay for it.
The request was tabled so that Norman could research the funding.
