SHERWOOD, MI (WTVB) – Friday the 13th turned out to be unlucky for the driver of asphalt truck after it was destroyed in fire Friday morning in Sherwood Township.
Sherwood, Athens and Union City firefighters were dispatched at around 10:00am to Dunks Road near Riley Road at about 10:00 a.m. after the vehicle which belonged to Robert Bailey Contractors out of Kalamazoo became fully involved in flames.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says a tire blew out and caught fire. The flames then spread to the trailer that had a load of asphalt and blacktop. The flames then moved to the rest of the truck.
Major damage was reported to the road
The unidentified driver suffered minor burns to his hands and face after he tried to put out the fire. A portion of Dunks Road had to be shut down.
