COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater split a doubleheader with Sturgis on Tuesday evening at Lowe Field winning the opener 6-4 but losing the nightcap 13-5. The split left the Cardinals with a record of 25-7.
Coldwater jumped out to a 5-0 in the opener and withstood a Sturgis rally. First game winning pitcher Brandon Lewis went the distance and helped his own cause with three hits and an RBI. Austin Krzeminski belted a three run homer while Brayton Rzepka had two hits.
Sturgis scored eight runs in the first inning of the second game and unlike last Saturday during the Stout and Sons Tournament when Coldwater came back from a eight run deficit, the Trojans did not let the big lead slip away. Lewis had two hits and drove in three runs in the nightcap while Bryce Barringer had two hits.
The Bronson Vikings swept a doubleheader from Cassopolis on Tuesday by scores of 8-0 and 15-1 as they improved to 24-7 overall and 8-2 in the BCS East. First game winning pitcher Daniel McMichael tossed a one-hitter and struck out 14. Ethan Cossairt had two doubles. He along with Noah Roberts both drove in two runs. Cossarirt was the winning pitcher in the second game. He helped his own cause with three RBI’s. Brett Sikorski and McMichael both had two hits.
Union City split a Big 8 Conference doubleheader at Homer, losing the first game 13-5 but winning the nightcap 14-4. The split left the Chargers with an overall record of 18-11-1. They finished in third place in the Big 8 with a 10-4 record as Jonesville and Concord shared the conference crown.
The Chargers led the opener 5-0 before Homer score six runs in the last of the fifth and seven more in the sixth. Eli Way, Seth Bruce and Colton Johns all had two hits. Johns was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. Way homered and drove in three runs while Blade Gordon had four RBI’s.

Bronson 15, Cassopolis 4 (1st game)Bronson 17, Cassopolis 4 (2nd game)
Bronson swept a BCS East doubleheader from Cassopolis 15-4 and 17-4 as they improved to 20-11 overall and 9-1 in the conference. Adyson Lasky and Allie Sikorski were the winning pitchers. Ashton Wronikowski homered and drove in two runs in the opener. Kiera Lasky also had two RBI’s while Adyson Lasky helped her own cause with three hits. Kelsey Robinson had four hits in the nightcap while Sikorski had three hits including two homers and drove in six runs.
QUINCY 12, CONCORD 0 (1st game)QUINCY 13, CONCORD 1 (2nd game)
Quincy swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader from Concord by scores of 12-0 and 13-1. The highlight of the sweep was an opening game no-hitter tossed by Quincy winning pitcher Hannah Econonmou who struck out 12 batters. Katie Newbery had three hits while Taylor Todd drove in four runs. Newberry had four stolen bases in the second game while Jayden Haller had four RBI’s.

Coldwater’s boys finished second while the Cardinal girls were seventh at the Interstate 8 track meet hosted by Charlotte on Tuesday. Parma Western won the boys meet by four points over Coldwater, 120-116. Harper Creek was third with 95 points. Harper Creek won the girls meet followed by Marshall and Jackson Lumen Christi.
Coldwater winners in the boys meet were Jordan Parkinson in the 800, Shuaib Aljabaly in the 3200, Sam DeMeester in the shot put and Connor Covert in the discus. Coldwater finished first in the 3200 relay.
Coldwater got second place finishes in the girls meet from Breanna Eddy in the long jump, Malorie Rzepka in the high jump and Jordan Bouse in the discus. New personal record times were set by Josilyn Quimby in the 1600 and from Addison Harvey in the 800.
—BOYS GOLF—
Coldwater hosted Harper Creek and Sturgis on Tuesday for a Tri-match involving varsity and junior varsity teams. Coldwater won the varsity event with a team score of 156. Harper Creek had a 177 and Sturgis shot 192. Leading the way for Coldwater was Nathan Waterbury with an 36, Alec Keplinger shot a 39, Nolan Duda had a 40, Nick Galliers and Cam Ruge each carded 41’s, and Keagan Dwyer rounded out the varsity scoring with a 45.
Coldwater shot a 169 to win the JV event. Coldwater was led by Jacob Fair and Collin Warner who each shot 40’s, Tanner Bowers had a 43, Kyle Herman carded a 46, Collin Outwater shot 50, Brendan Hanna had a 51, Dillon Gagnon shot a 56 and Joe Hicks rounded out the scoring with a 57.
Coldwater’s varsity will be playing in District competition on Thursday and along with the J.V. team will be playing in the Fremont Invitational on Saturday at the Coldwater Golf Course.
