HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – Faced with a challenging uphill course at Hastings Tuesday during the second Interstate 8 league jamboree, the Coldwater’s Boy’s Cross-Country Team still rolled over their competition, winning the meet with just 24 points. Parma Western was second with 61 points followed by Harper Creek with 64 points.
Cardinal runners had five runners in the top 10 as they took first, second, fourth, eighth, and ninth on their way to solidifying their hold on first place in the league. Shuaib Aljabaly paced the Cardinal boy’s with his first place win. Zack Murphy was second, Ben Fagen fourth, Jordan Parkinson eighth while Jacob Fair was ninth.
Elka Machan paced the Cardinal girls with her fifth place finish. Kathy Potter was 14th and Lexi Clemens was 15th. The Coldwater girls placed 6th in the team standings. Marshall edged Parma Western on a tiebreaker to win the girls meet after each compiled 71 points. Jackson Lumen Christi was third with 74 points.
Concord’s boys and Quincy’s girls once again finished first in the team standings at the Big 8 Jamboree hosted by Athens on Tuesday. Concord won the boys meet with 31 points followed by Jonesville with 57 points and Homer with 68 points. Quincy finished fourth while Union City was seventh. Quincy’s Nathan Nohr was fifth while Union City’s Chase Hurley was 11th.
Quincy had five runners in the top 20 in the girls meet. The Orioles won with 56 points followed by Concord with 68 points and Reading with 77 points. Union City finished seventh. Quincy’s Gabby Porter was fourth, Meri Michael eighth, Harmony Harpster ninth, Haley Bean 16th and Madelyn Allman was 19th. Marika Endo of Union City was 18th.

Coldwater 4, Jackson Northwest 0
The Coldwater boys varsity soccer broke the school record for wins Tuesday night, beating Jackson Northwest 4-0 in the first round of the Interstate 8 Conference Gold Division Tournament. The win improved the Cardinals record to 17-2-1 on the season, and sets up a match-up with Marshall in the tournament final Thursday.
Mana Ahmed scored the lone goal of the first half, assisted by Yones Mussa. Mohamed Nagi had one goal and one assist in the second half. Jonathon Brownell and Ben Fagen also scored, with one assist from Mana Ahmed. Balal Nasser was in goal, but had no saves as Coldwater outshot Northwest 15-0. It was the 14th shutout of the season for the Cardinals.
Marshall beat Parma Western 1-0 to advance to the final against Coldwater.
The Coldwater JV team beat Jackson Northwest 7-0 in the first game of the J.V. Interstate 8 Gold Division tournament. Coldwater outshot Northwest 20-0. Dominick Kelly and Shaif Ahmed scored two goals apiece. Hunter Eldridge, Asam Hussein and Harwan Allatre also scored for Coldwater. The Coldwater J.V. team is now 11-3-2 on the season.

Veronica Gonzalez and Abby Herman served 6 points each. Kaia Donay added 3 kills, 3 digs and one block. Laynee Paarlberg 5 assists; Alyssa Bach 5 points and Meg Smith 3 kills.
The Coldwater 8th grade B volleyball team fell to Charlotte 22-25 25-15 14-16.
The 8th grade teams will host Lumen Christi on Thursday in their pink games. The 8th grade A team will wear there yellow shirts in an honor to Amelia a 9 year family friend battling brain cancer- Amelia’s wish Is for everyone to pick up trash and make the world a cleaner place for all.The Coldwater 7th grade A team defeated Charlotte 25-6 25-11 15-13 as they improved their overall record to 12-1.
