COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Open houses will be held in the Coldwater and Bronson school districts on Monday before the first bell of the new school year rings the following morning.
Bronson Community Schools will be hosting open houses on Monday night. They will be held at Anderson Elementary at 4:00 p.m., Ryan Elementary at 4:30 p.m. and at Bronson Junior/Senior High School at 6:00 p.m.
After open houses were held Thursday in its three elementary buildings, Coldwater Community Schools will have open house on Monday night at Legg Middle School starting at 4:00 p.m. and at Coldwater High School at 5:00 p.m.
Open houses were held in Quincy last Wednesday.
Classes start in the Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson districts on Tuesday which is two weeks earlier than in recent years. Those three districts along with the Branch Intermediate School District and Pansophia Academy were given three year waivers by the state to start classes early.
School districts in Michigan can not start until the Tuesday after Labor Day unless they get a waiver.
One of the reasons for the early start was it was felt by school officials it would help students who attend early or middle college. But those opposed felt students should not go back early due to the possibility of hot weather in late August.
The early start does not affect the Union City School District, since it belongs to the Calhoun Intermediate School District. Classes in Union City start Tuesday, September 5.
