COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school wrestling, Coldwater won the Division 2 Team District on their home mat Wednesday. The Cardinals defeated Sturgis 50-18 and then they beat Marshall in the district final 44-18.
Going 2-0 on the night were Faheem Abdullah (125), Daniel Pino (130), Carter Hoard (135) Ezra Lewis (140), Griffen Olmstead (160), Zach Miller (171), Sam DeMeester (189), and Zach Gipple (215).
The Cardinals advance to the Division 2 Stevensville Lakeshore Regional next Wednesday where they will take on Harper Creek in the Regional Semifinals.
Harper Creek won its own district by beating Battle Creek Central 69-6 and Gull Lake 48-20. Matttawan and Niles are on the other side of the Regional bracket. Before that, the Cardinals will wrestle in the Division Two Three Rivers individual district tournament on Saturday.
Division 4 at Bronson
Bronson captured a Division 4 Team District title as they defeated Mendon 41-26 and then knocked off White Pigeon in the finals 45-28. The Vikings built a 30-0 lead in the finals and then had to hold off a White Pigeon rally. White Pigeon advanced to the finals by beating Colon 78-6. Bronson will face Reading in the Division 4 Regional semifinals next Wednesday at Mendon. Decatur will meet Niles Brandywine in the other semifinal.
Division 4 at Quincy
Quincy lost to Reading in the Division 4 District finals 48-30. The Orioles were forced to forfeit five matches in the lower weight classes against the Rangers. Quincy advanced to the finals by defeating Camden-Frontier while Reading defeated Pittsford 60-20.
Division 4 at Union City
Athens won the Division 4 Team Wrestling Districts at Union City. The host Chargers lost to Galesburg-Augusta 42-18 in the semifinals while Athens defeated Tekonsha 54-6. Athens then defeated Galesburg-Augusta in the finals 48-24.
