DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – A federal judge has denied an emergency injunction to block funding for Little Caesars Arena and the Pistons move to downtown Detroit.
A lawsuit filed earlier this month by activist Robert Davis and D. Etta Wilcoxon sought to have Detroit residents vote on whether the project should be funded with public money. The cost for the arena has increased from $450 million to $862 million and public funds are expected to pay for 38-percent of the construction.
In his decision yesterday evening, Judge Mark Goldmith said if he approved the injunction, it could cause great harm to the city. Today, the Detroit City Council will vote on a new proposal that would issue $34.5 million in bonds for the Pistons’ move from The Palace of Auburn Hills.
