COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution on Monday night that would vacate the public right of way at the north end of Bennett Street near the former site of the Midwest Foundry as the installation of solar panels at the site is moving forward.
The vacation would be on the north side of Bennett between Hooker and West Park Street.
The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities is requesting the abandonment because Bennett Street in is between the site of the former foundry and a CBPU substation.
Officials are looking to vacate the land in order to prevent foot traffic near the solar array. In addition, there are high voltage transmission lines in the area.
The council will also consider an application for over $98,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation that would assist in the expansion of the Tasty Twist on Marshall Street so that the business can hire three additional workers.
