MASON, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys won a MHSAA Division Two Regional championship Friday at Mason while the Coldwater girls finished fourth. By virtue of their Regional championship, the Coldwater boys automatically receive an invitation to the MITCA (Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association) Division 2 Team State Meet next Saturday at Harper Creek. The MHSAA State Finals are June 3, 2017.
The Cardinals won the boys meet with 150 ½ points followed by Harper Creek with 79 and Lake Odessa Lakewood with 62. Coldwater winners Friday in the boys regionals were Connor Covert in the shot put and discus and Shuaib Aljabaly in the 3200.
The Cardinals took the first seven positions in the shot put. Aljabaly, Jordan Parkinson, Ben Fagen and Zack Murphy teamed up to win the 3200 relay.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Wellet broke the Coldwater High School record in the 100 meter hurdles with a second place finish of 15.25 seconds in the event final. She tied the old record of 15.7 seconds last week. Pennfield’s Arabia Bacon won with a time of 15.23 seconds.
Harper Creek won the girls meet with 97 ½ points followed by Olivet with 87, Mason with 75 ½ andColdwater with 65.
Bronson, Quincy and Union City teams competed at the MHSAA Division Three Regionals hosted by Hillsdale Academy on Friday. Hillsdale won the boys meet with 113 points followed by Hanover-Horton with 92 ½ and Quincy with 65. Union City finished seventh while Bronson tied with Michigan Center for 16th.
Adrian Madison won the girls meet with 123 points followed by Onsted with 89 and Quincy with 72. Union City was sixth while Bronson tied with Napoleon for 13th.
Quincy’s Madelyn Allman won the 100 hurdles while Rachel Wing of Union City won the discus.
