COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Police say a woman somehow managed to escape with minor injuries in a bizarre domestic violence incident that erupted last Friday.
The suspect was arraigned yesterday in Branch County District Court. 45-year old Norman Dale Osborn, Jr. of Pittsford is facing a pair of assault with a dangerous weapon charges as well as one count each of domestic assault and reckless driving.
According to City Police, the victim and a male co-worker had just pulled into a South Michigan Avenue business parking lot where they were employed when Osborn allegedly pulled open the door to their pickup truck and attempted to strike the man in the driver’s seat with a section of exhaust pipe. Police say he also tried but failed to hit the woman with the pipe and then slapped her in the face before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.
Authorities report the victim was later located when she flagged down a State Police patrol car north of Coldwater along Jonesville Road and told her story to the trooper, who was able to see she had been injured.
In Hillsdale County, Sheriff’s deputies went to Osborn’s home where he was taken into custody and then returned to Coldwater and taken to the County Jail. The suspect is free on $5,000 bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim. Osborn is scheduled to appear for a District Court probable cause hearing a week from today with a preliminary exam set for June 6, 2017.
