KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – After dropping the opening game, the top-ranked and two time defending state Class C champion Bronson Vikings took the next three games as they defeated second ranked Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central three games to one on Tuesday night in a MHSAA girls volleyball quarterfinal match at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix High School.
Monroe Saint Mary won the first game 25-23 but it was all Bronson after that. The Vikings won the next three games by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-20.
Keona Salesman was our McDonald’s Player of the Match with a game-high 25 kills. Ashton Wronikowski had 10 kills and 3 aces, Kiana Mayer had 4 kills, 3 blocks, 40 assists, 9 digs, and 2 aces, and Kiera Lasky had 2 kills, 26 digs, and 2 aces
Bronson is now 57-9-2 and they advanced to face Calumet Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in a MHSAA semifinal match at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. Calumet advanced with a 3-0 victory over Houghton Lake (25-12, 25-23, 25-23).
Wixom Saint Catherine will face Laingsburg in the first semifinal at 12 noon Friday. Friday’s winner will play for the state title at 12 noon Saturday at Kellogg Arena.
