Officials asked for volunteers to fill sandbags to keep the Kalamazoo River from flooding Rieger and Victory Parks.
A big thank you was issued to all of the Public Safety, Public Services and volunteers who helped divert the water and prevent extensive damage.
The water continues to work its way into rivers as it flows out to Lake Michigan. The Kalamazoo, Grand and St. Joseph Rivers have yet to crest downstream so the worst maybe yet to come for some property owners.
Some county road commissions have run out of barricades and are using social media to remind people not to drive on any flooded street. The Berrien County Courthouse in Niles is closed due to the flooding.
