NEW YORK, NY (WTVB) – New Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey won the Coach of the Year award from the NBA for his efforts with his former team, the Toronto Raptors.
Casey began his tenure in Toronto in 2011 and led the Raptors to four division titles and five appearances in playoffs. He was also voted coach of the year by the NBA coaches association this season, but was fired after Toronto was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Casey was named Detroit’s head coach earlier this month and takes over for Stan Van Gundy who ended his four years with the Pistons with a record of 152-176 and one playoff appearance.
