SEATTLE, WA (WTVB) – Jean Segura hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning to lift the Mariners past the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in Seattle. Segura also scored on Mitch Haniger’s two-run homer that tied the game in the ninth. Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc and six relievers held Detroit scoreless over the final 10 innings with Nick Vincent picking up the win. Seattle has won three straight and improved to 27-and-19 overall.
Tigers starter Francisco Liriano took a no-hitter into the seventh, but closer Shane Greene blew his third save of the season. Buck Farmer was tagged with the loss as Detroit fell to 20-and-26. John Hicks hit a two-run homer in the first for Detroit.
The Tigers wasted another no-hit bid by Liriano. The lefty lost his bid when Haniger lined a single to left-center with one out in the seventh. It’s the second time this season the Tigers have lost a game in which Liriano flirted with a no-hitter.
After losing three-of-four in Seattle, the Tigers are now in the Twin Cities to begin a three-game series tonight with Minnesota. Blaine Hardy will start for Detroit, while Minnesota sends Jose Berriors to the mound.
The Tigers are third in the AL Central at 20-and-26, two-and-a-half games behind the Indians.
