COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Union Township resident asked the Branch County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday to put together a county wind ordinance concerning industrial wind turbines.
Right now, any decisions on zoning ordinances to govern the impact of wind turbines lies with the various township boards.
Marilyn Johnson felt a county wide ordinance on wind turbines would bring uniformity.
DTE Energy site manager Jeff Haines told commissioners earlier this summer they were in the early stages in Union, Sherwood, Matteson and Batavia Townships of developing a wind turbine project.
Both sides of the wind turbine debate were presented to Commissioners in July by representatives from DTE Energy and a local group called Concerned Citizens of Branch County.
The Sherwood Township Board and Planning Commission will host a special meeting Wednesday night which will include a presentation from Dr. Sarah Mills of the University of Michigan regarding wind energy projects and the issues communities should consider.
Sherwood Township Clerk Denise Smith says the public meeting will be held at the Union City Middle School starting at 7:00 p.m..
It’s being held as the Sherwood Township board and Planning Commission is reviewing options and receiving information for the development of zoning regulations for a possible wind energy project.
