COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday night to give City Manager Keith Baker permission to submit an application for a grant to the Michigan Department of Treasury for fire responder hazard pay as part of a premium program that was established through the CARES Act.
The program provides reimbursement of up to $1,000 of a hazard pay premium per eligible first responder including police and firefighters in response to threats from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baker says they will apply for a total of $30,000 to provide a hazard pay premium for the city’s 30 eligible firefighters and police officers.
Eligible hazard pay premiums must be paid to employees by September 30 to qualify for the program.
The application process also closes on that day.
