COLDATER, MI (WTVB) – Firefighters from three departments had to battle a mid morning structure fire which broke out at 541 Schaeffer Drive just southeast of Coldwater.
The Coldwater Fire Department was dispatched at around 9:25 a.m.. The initial dispatch said there was a possible explosion. Quincy and Lakeland Fire Department crews along with tankers were called in for mutual aid.
The garage which was attached to the residence was fully involved in flames. There was also damage to the home.
The fire was called under control at 10:10 a.m.. Firefighters were on the scene for over three hours.
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division has been called in to assist with the investigation.
According to scanner traffic, apparently there was no one home at the time the fire broke out.
Traffic controls had to be set up at nearby intersections. Smoke from the fire could be seen from at least a mile away.
