HUDSON, MI (WTVB) – A total of ten Branch County wrestlers have advanced to the MHSAA State Individual Wrestling Finals at Ford Field. Two won regional titles on Saturday at the Division Four Regionals in Hudson. Bronson’s Ben Modert won the 112 pound championship while Brayton Mears of Union City took the 103 pound title.
Bronson advanced six to the State Finals. Modert will be joined by Alex Tyer (285) and Ruger Ranney (171) as they both finished second. Issac Tappenden (152), Justin Blankenship (189) and Preston Wronikowski (103) also advanced to Detroit as they all finished fourth.
Mears’ Union City teammate Brayton Burgett (285) finished fourth and advanced to Ford Field as did Quincy’s Gerl Pish (140) who finished third.
Coldwater’s Griffin Olmstead is also heading to the Motor City as he finished second at 171 pounds in the Division Two Regionals hosted by Vicksburg.
More honors for Bronson’s wrestling team. Assistant Coach Tony Turner was named Saturday as the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year by the Michigan Wrestling Association.
