COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The bitterly cold below zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills that were in yesterday’s forecast and that prompted school officials last night across Branch County to cancel classes for today…those wicked winter conditions have now taken grip across Southern Lower Michigan, where most schools are closed today. The Coldwater, Bronson, Quincy, and Union City school districts are all closed today, as are Pansophia Academy, St Charles Borromeo School, and St Mary’s Assumption Catholic School in Bronson as well at Tekonsha.
The wind chills this morning have already plunged to around 30-below zero and authorities say any exposed skin is prone to frostbite in a matter of minutes. A National Weather Service Wind Chill Warning remains in effect until noon Thursday. Snow, possibly heavy at times, with blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities, is on the way for tonight through tomorrow afternoon. The NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 pm THursday until 4 pm Friday.
