GALESBURG, MI (WTVB) – There’s been a deadly crash on I-94 in Kalamazoo County involving over 100 vehicles, reportedly including at least 50 semis. The interstate was shut down in both directions near Galesburg following the collisions that happened around 9:30 a.m.Friday in the east bound lanes. There have been multiple injuries in the pile-up, and some media reports say there has been at least one death.
Late this morning an evacuation order was put in place that covered a 3-mile radius from I-94 at the 90 mile marker. One of the semis that caught fire was carrying hazardous materials and another one that went up in flames was loaded with fireworks that were exploding.
State Police were advising all motorists to stay well clear of the area until the highway is reopened. Authorities confirmed at least one fatality with multiple injuries. Battle Creek Transit sent several buses to transport displaced motorists to the Galesburg-Augusta Primary school and to keep emergency workers warm.
