KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – The ice on many area lakes still is not thick enough to hold a human’s weight. A resident near Crooked Lake in Kalamazoo County’s Texas Township found that out the hard way over the weekend and so did some of the people who tried to rescue him. They managed to get him out but he fell back through the ice which was only about an inch thick. Fire crews arrived with wet suits and got all the civilians back to shore, and they rescued the man who had fallen through Saturday morning.
The victim and one firefighter were treated for mild cases of exposure but both will be fine.
