COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports from over the weekend, in wrestling, Coldwater finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Dave Elliot Invitational at Clinton with Battle Creek Lakeview winning the tournament. Leading the way for Coldwater was Nooh Aljabaly who took first place with a pin at 140 pounds. Also placing in their weight divisions were Zach Chehowski, finishing third, and Jesse Miller and Shuaib Aljabaly each with fourth place finishes.
in gymnastics, Coldwater placed seventh out of 12 teams Saturday at the Lowell Invitational and in the process, earned their second team regional qualifier with a score of 120.400. In the first event of the day, the floor exercise, the Lady Cardinals posted a team season high total of 32.35 and had four individual qualifying scores led by sisters Amanda and Jenny Daoud who each scored 8.35. Madison Hedstrom and Abby Swick also posted qualifying scores. Next was the vault and Jenny Daoud performed a personal best, scoring 8.7, good enough to tie for 10th on the day. A host of gymnasts also picked up a qualifying score including Amanda Daoud, Britney Peet , Darien Dyer, Sarah Hughes and Brooke Neitzert. On the bars, Amanda Daoud led the team with a 7.325 and Jenny Daoud picked up a 7.05, the only qualifiers for the team on the bars. The Lady Cardinals closed the day on the balance beam, where freshman Sarah Hughes led the team with her first ever qualifier and personal best of 7.65. Amanda Daoud was close behind with her score of 7.6, earning her third straight qualifier in the event. Senior Jenny Daoud is the first on the team to earn the right to compete in the post season with qualifying marks in each of Coldwater’s 4 meets on the vault, bars, and floor exercise. Leading the Lady Cardinals in the All-Around category at Lowell was Amanda Daoud at 31.675 .
Tonight in Branch County high school sports, there’s only one event on the schedule with girls basketball as Quincy plays at home against Mendon.
