COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There were plenty of positive reviews with very few complaints after a busy opening weekend of activities in Coldwater at the city’s newly expanded Dr. Robert W. Browne Recreation Center. That was the word at last night’s meeting of the Coldwater City Council. Happenings at the Rec Center included youth league basketball games, birthday parties and adult volleyball matches.
City Manager Jeff Budd reported there were more than 1,000 people in and out of the building on Saturday. City Councilman Cisco Ortiz mentioned some people were surprised that there was an admission fee for the youth basketball games but the city has hired experienced referees for the contests. According to Ortiz, for a number of visiting teams from Marshall or Sturgis, they are used to having to pay at the gate for the leagues.
The city is holding an open house for the Rec Center next Monday, January 19th from 7 am to 7 pm. to celebrate the opening. Budd said the latest word on the new Aquatic Center is a possible opening date of February 1, 2015.
