COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s a summer thing in Coldwater, but Relay for Life of Branch County makes the announcement in the cold of winter every year about when they plan to kick off their fund raising efforts. We learned yesterday that this year, it will be Wednesday, February 18 when the American Cancer Society holds the kickoff event for the 2015 Branch County Relay. Volunteers and participants will gather that morning at the First Baptist Church in Coldwater to launch their fundraising for the year.
The Cancer Society says one in every 100 Americans participates in an ACS relay event, making it a global phenomenon that paves the way to a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The February 18th breakfast at the church in Coldwater will be served at 7:00 am followed by the kickoff program at 7:30 am.
Once again this year, Relay For Life event participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of local cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap; remember those who are fighting cancer or those have lost their battle to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony; and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony, which gives everyone a chance to proclaim his or her own way of taking action against the disease. Donations can be made by visiting RelayForLife.org. Community members also can start or join a team by following the links to their local Relay event.
The 2015 Relay For Life of Branch County will take place on June 27 & 28 10:00 am-10:00 am at the Branch County Fairgrounds. For more information about the kickoff event or on how you can get involved, contact Megan Wilczynski, event leader, at branchcorelayforlife@gmail.com
