ALLEN PARK, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Lions are cutting ties with center Dominic Raiola after 14 seasons. According to the “Detroit News”, Raiola’s agent said his client has been told he will not be in the team’s plans for next year. The 36-year-old made a franchise record 203 starts during his career with Detroit. He played in 15 games this season, but was not in the lineup against Green Bay in Week 17 after he was suspended for stomping on the leg of a Chicago player the week before.
Raiola’s tenure was not without controversy as he had six safety-related violations since 2010, made obscene gestures to fans after a loss to the Vikings in 2008 and yelled gay slurs at the University of Wisconsin marching band before a game against the Packers last season.
