BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A one hour Michigan State Police standoff in Branch County’s Noble Township in a domestic violence case ended last night with the surrender of suspect, who now faces a reckless gunfire charge. The intoxicated suspect surrendered to troopers following about an hour long standoff as he walked out of the house on Orland Road unarmed. Police later recovered five long guns in the residence.
Troopers said the suspect ‘s brother helped talk him into giving up following the incident that was first reported around 8:30 PM Tuesday night when a woman called 9-1-1 from her home in Bronson to report that she had been assaulted by her former boyfriend at the Orland Road location. After police met with the woman and found she had a swollen eye and a glass cut on her hand, they went to the suspect’s home and a short time later, a single shot was fired from a second story window. Troopers said it didn’t come close to hitting anyone outside the house.
The former Bronson man who was taken into custody was treated at the Community Health Center of Branch County for a hand injury that police say he suffered when he broke out a window so he could fire his weapon. The suspect was then taken to the Branch County jail and booked for domestic violence and discharge of a firearm. More charges are possible. He’s due to be arraigned today in Branch Couty District Court.
