WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) – Dozens of youth from Branch County as well as a number of parents from their Catholic Church parishes at St. Charles Borromeo in Coldwater and St. Mary’s of Assumption in Bronson are in Washington, D.C. for the annual March for Life. Today’s rally marks the 42nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, which legalized abortions.
House Republicans on Capitol Hill announced Wednesday they are dropping plans for a vote on a measaure that would ban abortion after 20 weeks. Media reports say GOP leaders scrapped plans for the vote after facing opposition from women within the party. The bill would exclude cases where the woman was either raped or her life depended on the abortion. Doctors who perform the outlawed procedures could face fines or imprisonment of up to five years. Republicans had hoped to vote on the bill today.
