UNDATED (WTVB) – There were seven high school basketball games involving county teams Friday night. Among the highlights, Quincy remains undefeated in boys hoops, while the Bronson boys picked up their second win of the season.
We brought you coverage of an Interstate 8 twinbill for Coldwater at Charlotte, and it was a clean sweep for the Orioles against the visiting Cardinals. In the boys contest, Charlotte drained nine 3-point baskets, 8 of them in the first half, as they flew past a short-handed Coldwater squad 54-37. The Cardinals were without the services of Michael Magocs, who was out sick. Collin Warner led the team with 14 points, while our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Brendan Spangler, had 8 points and a game-high 6 rebounds. With their eighth straight loss, the Cardinals drop to 1-8 overall, 0-6 in the Interstate 8.
Charlotte’s girls picked up their first win of the season against 9 defeats by defeating Coldwater 45-29. Payton Watson and Kendall Galloway had 8 points apiece to pace the Cardinals; Watson was named our McDonald’s Player of the Game. Coldwater’s fifth straight loss drops their record to 3-8 overall, 1-5 in the Interstate 8.
Coldwater’s JV girls did pick up a 44-24 win at Charlotte behind 9 points apiece for Jamie Wellet and Carly Duke; Wellet added 7 rebounds and 2 steals as the Lady Cardinal JVs improve to 8-3.
At Homer, Quincy’s boys remain undefeated on the season with their 63-48 win against the host Trojans. Jake Rider had a game-high 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Jake Jodway had 17 and Chase Cook had 13 points and 3 assists as the Orioles improve to 8-0 overall. 5-0 in the Big 8.
In the opener of the twinbill at Homer, the Lady Trojans beat Quincy 54-18. Katie Spalding had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Cailyn Hines added 8 to wrap up the scoring for the Orioles, who drop to 1-10 overall, 1-5 in the Big 8.
Back to boys basketball, Bronson posted a 61-49 non-league win at home against Athens to improve to 2-6. Sean Kenny led all scorers with 19 points, while Daniel McMichael scored 14, Branson Thenen had 11, and Eric Toledo had 11 rebounds to go with his 6 points.
Tekonsha lost to visiting Jackson Christian 64-42 to drop to 3-6 overall, 1-4 in the SCAA. Connor Jenkins paced the Indians with 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Everett Lewis-Lanphar had 10 points and 5 boards.
In girls basketball, Union City lost at Jonesville 54-40. The Chargers fall to 2-10 overall, 0-6 in the Big 8.
