COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Extreme cold and blowing snow have been the culprits for school closings so far this winter in Branch County but today, it was ice covered roads and streets that caused classes to be cancelled county-wide and all around the area. Freezing drizzle started to fall in the middle of the night with temperatures in the upper 20’s and when it stopped coming down two hours later, an icy coating was in place, making driving and walking a risky endeavor at best.
Numerous slide-off accidents were called into Branch County Central Dispatch but judging by the fewer number of cars and trucks on the roads this morning, a lot of drivers decided to wait it out until the mercury moved above 32 degrees to start the melting process and make it a bit safer for motorists.
